Oddsmakers at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook opened up numbers in early March and to no surprise another quarterback is favored.
The top betting choice is Deshaun Watson, the dual-threat signal caller from Clemson. He's listed at 5/1 odds (Bet $100 to win $550) and finished third in the 2015 Heisman Trophy voting.
Alabama running back Derrick Henry captured last year's coveted award, barely beating out Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey. The multi-purpose back and returner is back at Stanford and listed right behind Watson at 6/1 odds.
Henry was the first running back to win the award since 2009 and just the second in the last 10 years. We haven't seen back-to-back running backs win the award since Ricky Williams and Ron Dayne captured the Heisman in 1998 and 1999 respectively.
Quarterbacks have won the award 13 of the past 16 years and a couple of signal callers have received extra attention already at the Las Vegas property. Notre Dame signal callers DeShone Kizer has dropped from 30/1 to 20/1 and Oregon's Dakota Prukop is down to 30/1 after being opened at 40/1.
Kizer hasn't been guaranteed the starting spot yet for the Fighting Irish but is conisdered to be the front-runner by most reports. Prukop is a graduate transfer from Montana State, where he was a first-team FCS All-American in 2015.
While those two individuals aren't exactly household names in mid-May, we've had our fair share of quarterbacks burst onto the scene recently and win the Heisman. In paticular, Cam Newton, Johnny Manziel and Jameis Winston.
